11/3/09 The hot topic of discussion at the committee meeting last night was Burnouts at MacPark. Unfortunately over the past 2 weekends, one a Ride Day and the other the Hartwell round, we had a couple of Riders with a bit too much adrenalin. The second ( Hartwell Race weekend ) of the two incidences actually damaged the Track surface for which a bill will be generated for, the first resulted in some messy circle work with no actual track damage. So here's the bottom line, Burnouts = Penalty applies! . . . Any Track repairs from Burnouts = do'er pays.
9/3/09 The Hartwell round at MacPark last weekend was pretty spectacular with lots of very competitive racing throughout the classes. As I was busy in the pits this time, I did get to see a lot of the Over 600 Expert / Non Expert and 600 Novice Races working with Geelong's Nathan McKenzie and local Travis Gilmore. Travis did well ( once he started eating the red snakes Trish gave him ) bringing home 4 Trophy's on the 600 and getting amongst his best Race Lap times at MacPark. Nathan however had his hands very full in the Open Class, to give those who didn't make it an idea of the pace, Nathan also was getting amongst his fastest ever Race laps times at MacPark of 1.17's, but his problem was we had about 16 or 17 other riders doing the same or better, Nathan's best result was a hard fought 14th. I reckon she'd be right up their with the fastest big bunch of riders ever to be assembled in one race at MacPark since perhaps the Super Street mob came years ago. Their last Race on Saturday was one huge line of very quick riders with not many gaps in it at the finish line, awesome action.
2/3/09 The entry forms are out for the 2009 Easter Road Races at McNamara Park, download them in pdf format > here < and have a good read as there's a few new things happening with the classes etc.
With the fast decline of numbers amongst many of the existing Classes, the MGMC&LCC are trying something a little different to hopefully give both Racers & Spectators better Grids at Easter and if successful will be refined and carried on at the October meeting ( which we will hopefully get back to a Club Level allowing many to compete who go Racing on "one event licences" ).
A close description of "Group Racing" goes something like this . . . Please note, this doesn't involve the Bears Class also running at Easter.
All Moderns, 1000's & 600's Thunderbikes etc will make up in what's called Division 1 which will be further split into "Groups" depending on entries received.
All Classics / Post Classic / Motards / 125's etc ( the 125's are the odd ones out here, but as we have a couple of 14 year olds, although fast, we're thinking they are safer amongst this lot than the other ) will make up Division 2 which will be further split into "Groups" depending on entries received.
One easy fix would be if we got swamped with entries is to run a 125 / Motard Division 3 ( very successful with the Hartwell Club ) So come on Motards, get those entries in .
The idea for those chasing the pointy end is to work your way up into the top 15 overall in each Division to get amongst the Trophies etc awarded to 15th place. Points accumulating from all heat races, Grids will be reshuffled to allow Riders a fair chance to climb their up the ladder.
It's something a bit different which will need a bit of flexibility form both Riders & Officials to implement as we iron out potential problems, it should result in a better spread of fields, providing better racing in all events.
Now . . . is there anyone who thinks they don't have a top 15 chance ? . . .

the Easter Road Races
6/2/09 With numbers expected to be low in various classes at the Easter Meeting the Club is going through the process of trying a new format. "Group Racing" allows the Club to organize all entries into to Groups of similar abilities. Group Racing uses a Rolling Grid of sorts with the promotion and demotion of the fastest and slowest three Riders after each Race. This idea is new to us all and should provide a bit of variation for the participating Riders, we'll all need to have a somewhat flexible approach to iron out any problems, but it's a good way to go as numbers in existing Classes of Racing these days seem to be dwindling. Unfortunately (my opinion) Easter is still an "Open" meeting not allowing for One Event Licences . . . maybe next year we can do something with the Bears so we can get Easter to a "Club Level" meeting allowing Day licences perhaps.
24/1/09 Held under the new MSA Guidelines of "Come n Try", we held a day for a few Ulysses members visiting the South East on the long weekend. It was very well received with plenty of smiles all round during the afternoons riding. We ran 2 groups which were "Tour Led" by Traveling Marshals Paul, Rick and Aaron, we started with a max speed of about 90Kmh working through the sessions up to about 140kmh later in the afternoon. This idea worked pretty good with riders picking up good lines and habits from the Marshals very quickly. Worthy of mention was our most mature lady rider "Chris" at 65yrs, a very tidy rider on a pretty good pace, very much enjoyed the experience of being able to ride McNamara Park without the usual cautions needed to ride on the open road. Hopefully we'll pop some pics up here soon. Many thanks to our helpers, Phill Mc and MSA as we didn't really give a lot of notice for the paperwork etc, but I think all were keen to see how this new format worked out.
2/1/09 At our last Committee meeting it was mentioned we should look at new ideas to help promote Race Days to encourage Riders and in particular New Riders to the sport of Road Racing. If you look at the numbers at xmas, you'll see we had about 28 Yamaha LC punters, the Historic Club put together a great show, but future meets during this year will struggle for numbers if we don't come up with and or embrace a few new ideas. I think the only meeting not to struggle will be our popular Seniors over 45's meeting, where you can do the meet on any motorcycle and get a one event licence at the meeting. For modern Bike racers at "Open Meets" it's getting all pretty hard with not only the finances but the regulations. The Clubs decided to try a new format of Races at easter, stay tuned for more details.
19/12/08 We are going through some name and directory changes here on thearmsreport so ya may find or loose yaself as we alter / put in new links etc. One reason in particular is the new Guidelines MSA have put out for "Come n Try Days", in a nutshell for this type of day, fees have dramatically been reduced, but of course with more rules on who can actually ride at these events. One main rule is that Riders must never have held an MA License ( stiff if you want to try a different discipline, there goes my SuperCross ambitions... ) We are still keen to run a "Come 'n Try" Day under the new guidelines, but in order to do this we need to get at least say 10 Riders who have never held an MA License of any kind to ride at such a day.

We had capacity fields in a few groups resulting in some great racing amongst the classes. Perfect weather always helps, and I do know of a few riders that hope a few of their peers from years gone by aren't 45 soon as the competition is getting pretty hot. I guess that same element of competition has resulted in a few injuries and we all wish any who have succumbed to the forces of gravity, return next year for a better run at our unique form of racing. A top show all round, and looking forward to it next year. . . . . results_seniors_08 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
